Riaad Moosa is not only our choice of the month, but was the comedy industry’s choice of the year in 2011, when he took home the very first Comic’s Choice Comic Of The Year Award.
There are very few people in our business who manage to balance a young family, an outstanding bedside manner and a brilliant work ethic as an entertainer. Riaad does all of that while maintaining a high standard of work, and a spiritual outlook.
His satirical viewpoint is a hit with his huge fan base. He is largely fearless, but also knows how to pick his battles - and does not shy away from controversy, but only seems to risk it when he feels strongly on an issue. Riaad is too intelligent to shock people simply for the sake of publicity.
Riaad’s comedy can be as blunt as it can be surgical. He is a gentleman and an artist, which is not an easy equilibrium to maintain.
His commentary on current events is popular, whether on stage or in his cameo roles on LNN. His hilarious critiques are well thought-out, smoothly executed, and meticulously timed. He is one of few comics who can switch between the cerebral and the slapstick in a second.
Moosa is the driving force behind the new local film, Material, which is due to be released shortly, and you will be seeing him on some very prestigious line-up shows this year.
