Trevor Gumbi in Nearly Done… Don’t get me started...

Early 2012 sees controversial rising television star, Trevor Gumbi thunder onto stage in his first one-man show ever, Nearly Done. Trevor has gained a large following in a relatively short time with his outrageous Tweets, his numerous advertising campaigns and of course the thing that caused all the trouble in the first place… his mouth…

The last few years have seen Trevor almost float away from live stand-up comedy completely… Nearly Done is his big bad return to the live comedy battlefield … with a difference… Nearly Done is not just to be a stage show, but will also be a television special, produced by Gumbi’s home channel, Mzansi Magic.

The channel has said that Trevor has a very healthy following on the air, and they are throwing their full weight behind the show, giving it substantial advertising as well as creating a comedy special out of the live show. The special will cover all the material on stage, and give viewers a peak of the goings on behind the scenes.

“I’ve seen so many acts in line-up shows recently, there’s a mic, a curtain and a screen – the audience sitting on plastic chairs, laughing as their asses go numb… and the acts roll on and do a few minutes and vanish – it’s okay, but I want to see if we can make it different… I want to do something special, something people will be glad they saw, and will never forget,” says the Mzansi Magic presenter with a mischievous glint in his eye.

Gumbi has teamed up with John Vlismas’ Whacked:Special Project to create a show that will include elements not often seen in local live stage productions.

“When these guys showed me the props list for the viral video shoot – I was already excited, and that’s just the viral shoot – they brought in a set designer, a creative director and a guy who handles live snakes and eats fire… and he’s not even part of the show…”

Vlismas is very upbeat about working with Gumbi – “we have a history, me and Gumbi – we’ve done lot of work together, and I was always happy to know that there was a really dark, edgy man with a lot of talent out there, growing a big fan base and then getting really famous in ads and on TV, and then coming back to where it all started for him,” says Vlismas.

“Trevor has a crazy honesty, and discusses things that I’m sure everyone wants to, but never would. Couple that with a furious intelligence and a filthy mouth – and you have my favorite kind of anti-hero. He cuts through all the comedy hype we’re seeing these days, and gets on with his job, making the crowd laugh really hard.”

Nearly Done is a hit show – it will hit you on the head, the heart, and probably the crotch. Book now, unless you’re afraid of the dark.
