Auditor by day, lockstar by night…Dari hails from the 012, born n bred.
Between making spring rolls with his mom and pirating DVDs and music, he has spent years mastering the art of writing jokes, observing stereotypical Sefrican behaviour while picking up some killer accents along the way. He’ll take you on a journey from the Cape Flats; past Loftus, through Soweto to behind the counter of your local KFC. He is South Africa’s only Chinese comic, and will give you some unique insights into life in SA, from being Black and previously disadvantaged to having small tackle. He also makes a mean chow mein…

Combining the comedy of two of the finest non-rugby playing Afrikaans minds in the country, Die Flying Dutchmen strives to give a humorous and unique insight into daily South African life from a distinctive previously-advantaged, currently-confused, yet eternally optimistic cultural perspective. Gareth Woods was born in 1984 in the “bustling metropolis” of Klerksdorp, but spent his early childhood in several small towns in the Free State. Son to a preacher and an English teacher, Gareth struggled to fit in, in the strict Afrikaans towns and preconceived ideas of “preacher’s kids”. This was when he realised that he saw things a little differently than others.

Mark Sampson’s latest show - MARK SAMPSON FEELS FUNNY is a comic exploration of the ups and downs of life, featuring a giant game of Snakes and Ladders and a metre-wide inflatable dice. It’s a helter-skelter tumble through the kaleidoscopic twists of Mark’s mind, as he reflects on life, from first love to last rites, dodging sharks and stroking whales along the way. MARK SAMPSON FEELS FUNNY was the highest grossing stand up comedy show at the Grahamstown National Arts Festival during it’s first year in 2008 and went on to play to packed houses in East London at the Guild theatre.

The group hails from Sasolburg which may be part of the reason why they have been described as being “fuelled with passion for developing their talent”. Three young gentlemen who were all at different schools and singing in their respective school choirs (each was a soloist and had often competed against one another) got together as a trio in 1999, under the banner of the Sasol Music Choral. These fine gentlemen are Paul Dalasile, Fizile Magazi and Mpho Phasha.

A really funny guy…
In fact, he is so funny that he will have you addicted to his witty observations of the human race from the first moment you see him on stage! Despite the fact that he grew up in southern johannesburg he has somehow taught himself how to walk upright, use his opposable thumbs, make fire (using blitz and a lighter) and cause audiences to fall over laughing doing all of the above. Oh, and he does impressions. But not in the traditional sense… he really is something to see. Shaun’s popularity as an act helped him reach the final stages of the comedy competition “survival of the funniest.”
